Automotive High School has a new partner for after-school programs, Counseling in Schools (www.counselinginschools.org). The group offers a variety of programs that help develop student both educationally and socially, ranging from chess to music production. We hope to continue our service to Automotive High School by working to assist in some of these programs. One immediate opportunity lies in creating an after-school “internship” program for distinguished students from the school. If you work in a situation where you would be willing to host one of these students one day per week through the Spring semester (they are particularly interested in careers involving light production or manufacturing work – “working with your hands”), please contact David Stancil at david@resurrectionbrooklyn.
org. As the potential program develops, we may also seek to help with resume writing workshops, interviewing skills classes, and more. Please stay tuned for more details!
Our global partner, the Ethiopia ACT (Aids Care & Treatment) Project has been fighting the AIDS epidemic in Ethiopia since 2002. Ethiopia ACT provides physical, emotional, and spiritual care for individuals and families in Addis Ababa affected by HIV/AIDS.
Our network of churches has been helping Ethiopia ACT fight the AIDS epidemic for a number of years. Along with Abbot Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, MD, we send a team to work alongside the Ethiopia ACT project every year for two weeks in February. The 2016 trip will be February 19th-March 4th.
Here are three ways you can help us fight the AIDS epidemic in Ethiopia:
1) Send our team members! Our team needs to raise at least $7,000 for the trip this year. You can give online here. (Note: Sign in or sign up for an account. Enter the amount of your donation. Select Ethiopia Missions Team. Complete your payment.) You can make checks payable to Resurrection Brooklyn and write Ethiopia Missions Team on the memo line. Send checks to: Resurrection Brooklyn, 174 Prospect Park West, Apt. 1L, 11215 or drop them in the offering plate during the worship service.
2) Donate medical supplies. Here is a list of medical supplies and other needs that you can bring to your localResurrection Brooklyn worship service on February 7th or 14th or to the church office (174 Prospect Park West, Apt. 1L, 11215) during the week (call or e-mail ahead). Our church will be serving the women of the Broadway House Women’s Shelter Sunday December 20th directly after church and we need volunteers! We are hosting a holiday potluck lunch at the shelter, which is an extra special event for the residents, and we need people to: 1)Prepare or pick-up a dish to share (main, side or dessert). Typical potluck food like meat dishes, casseroles, salads, etc. that can feed large groups is best as this is a 165-bed shelter. 2)Help serve food to the women at the shelter and spend time with them. We also need cars to help transport the food. If you are interested in helping, please email Alaina Hohnarth and/or Kristin Dulaney.
Help us collect and distribute toys to families in need this Christmas. You can bring toys to our worship service on December 13th or December 20th. The toys collected by Resurrection Williamsburg will be donated to Trinity Human Service Center in Williamsburg. You can also volunteer to serve a meal at the Christmas Party at Most Holy Trinity on Wednesday, December 23rd at 6pm when the toys will be distributed. Please contact David Stancil for more details.
